Ground Zero!
We were getting tried and it was still getting us no where. It seemed as though that everyone else were able to take trips here and there, anytime to any place around Europe or even back home to the States. We were in every sense of the word, trapped! Since, we made our last trip out to Spain, it seemed we were punished for taking six days off to explore around and having to come back to apologize for being free by working almost everyday of the week, including working overtime to overtime over the first overtime.
We had enough of this shit. Our working environment was not a good one either, it seemed that everyone (well not everyone) were trying to fuck the next person over to reach to some level of authority of position of power. Since, Nathan and I were not trying to establish ourselves as "fuckers" well, the powers may be soon turned their attention away from themselves and planned on going after us. We knew this was going to happen and with the sure brilliance of our budgeting, we managed somehow to save way beyond $3,000 dollars, which isn't much. But, if we were to compare to our other dorm associates, they already spent their following pay check before receiving it. We on the other hand, spent an average of $50 dollars a month on groceries, as well as going out for food and drinks. Well, let's also consider that certain local bars would give us on the house tabs.
Yeah, we even tried to spend more time working out at the gym, sitting in the sauna at the Wellenbad (aka, soft porn!) or get more rest and hang out with other people. This dorm/work living situation was nothing we wanted. But, it was hard, I mean very hard to convince other people that there was something wrong with this living situation. To many of them, this was their college dorm . We already experienced that part of our lives, hell, we met back in college, while I was working as a resident director in a dorm and Nate was my new roommate!
Even with this discouraging matters, we managed somehow to meet new friends who were trapped in this Americo-Germanic militaristic world of the Edelweiss. Dave Lytle and Mike Erpernach were just two, which came to mind. We were also lucky to have our friend Zak Kent, who was always down to hang out and go hiking up in the mountains. There was Kevin Blackwell, who always found time to give us a hug and tell us that everything was good in the world. Chris (aka, chrisi-pu) and Kendall our next door neighbors were also an additional relief in this dorm environment. We were also entertained by the thoughts and ideas of Bill Kapoum, or smoke some trees with Billy and Casey and Josh. We even had political debates with right-wing republicans just make the time go by. Even though, we knew that we shouldn't indulge in such conversations with certain people, but fuck, we were bored!! Even at work, Nathan and I would have stupid, unrelated arguments just to bring some spice in our lives. We tried to fight each other at times, though, many would say (so would we) that we probably spent way too much time around one another. But, the truth is that we wanted more from this experience working and living in Europe, and sad but true, we were only given hardly no time to do anything, considering that we were the designated graveyard shift security.
